Marian Wright Edelman is one of the most influential African American women in the educational world. She is the founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund. She has been an advocate for disadvantaged Americans for her entire professional career. The Children’s Defense Fund has become the nation’s strongest voice for children and families, under her leadership.  The Leave No Child Behind® mission was formed by the Children’s Defense Fund to ensure that every child has a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. Marian Wright Edelman is a African American woman that I definitely look up to for extraordinary work in the educational world.
